Whether you are:

  • a parent of a child in speech therapy who has not made progress as quickly or as fully as you would like to see
  • a person experiencing orthodontic relapse, facial pain or sleep apnea
  • a therapist providing the treatment wondering what you may have missed

Rest Posture could be the Missing Link!

Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) are the missing pieces in so many of the clients we see. OMDs may include:

  • Prolonged oral habits such as thumb and finger sucking
  • A routine habit of resting with the lips apart
  • A forward resting position of the tongue between or against the teeth
  • A tongue thrust swallowing pattern

OMDs are typically not caused by one thing- rather, they are the result of a combination of factors including:

  • Restricted nasal airway due to enlarged tonsilsĂ©adenoidsĂ©deviated septum, +/or allergies
  • Improper oral habits such as prolonged thumb or finger sucking, cheek/nail/cuticle biting, teeth clenching/grinding and tongue or lip cheek sucking
  • Extended use of a pacifier or long term use of a sippy cup or food pouches
  • Structural or physiological abnormalities such as a short lingual frenum (tongue tie)
  • Hereditary predisposition
  • Neurological deficits and developmental delays

Programs for Therapists and Education for Families

The Orofacial Rest Posture Program (ORPP) offers comprehensive training programs for SLPs, RDHs, and other healthcare professionals. We specialize in helping therapists identify the missing link in patient care by addressing Orofacial Rest Posture (RP) while integrating a broader focus on sleep, speech, structure, and eating. Our training equips therapists with the skills to integrate myofunctional therapy into their practices and deliver high-quality and effective care.

For families and individuals, we provide education and personalized support to address RP, sleep, speech, and feeding concerns.  We help you thrive by providing high quality, compassionate, collaborative care to optimize outcomes.

At ORPP, we emphasize practical knowledge. We want you to know why you are doing what you are doing, how are you going to get there and what if you hit a bump along the way? What is your goal?

  • Improve dental occlusion and stability?
  • Support speech clarity?
  • Reduce TMJ pain
  • Improve quality of sleep?
  • Help optimize orofacial growth, speech and sleep quality?

We are passionate about making a real difference for both therapists and families. We empower healthcare professionals with the skills to assess and treat myofunctional disorders, all while ensuring families get the quality care and support they deserve. It’s about working together to create better outcomes for everyone involved!
